Abstract

As an agricultural country, Indonesia produced agricultural products and their wastes. Agricultural waste can be available throughout the year, but is still underutilized. In an effort to increase utilization of agricultural waste, it is processing into bioadsorbent. This research aims to study the effect of stirring time on the ability of bioadsorbent from peanut shell to reduce free fatty acids (FFA) and peroxide value (PV) on crude palm oil (CPO). Clean peanut shell is crushed, then reacted with NaOH to remove lignin, in order to obtain bioadsorbent. Crude palm oil is heated, then mixed with 5 grams bioadsorbent. It was stirred at 500 rpm for 0.5 to 3 hours according to the variables used, and the temperature is kept 110 oC. The mixture was filtered with a vacuum pump, filtrate taken. The filtrate was analyzed free fatty acid and peroxide value. Purification process with stirring time for 3 hours decreased levels of free fatty acids from 0.0307 % to 0.017 %. While the decline in peroxide value occurred from 0.052 meq H2O2/100 gr oil into 0.0061 meq H2O2/100 gr oil. The equation of stirring time versus Free Fatty Acid is y = 0.0007x2 – 0.0069x + 0.0315. While the equation of stirring time versus Peroxide Value is y = 0.0087x2 – 0.0367x + 0.0428.
